HIS Story

Life is a story. It’s a journey. It unfolds each day. What we experience, what we see, hear, touch and encounter is a part of our story. But is that it? Are we just writing our own story, chapter by chapter, year after year? Or is our story a part of a greater story?

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.”
John 1:1

The greatest story ever told is a story of eternal love. A love so great that God wrote each one of us into being with the purpose of making each of our stories a part of His great love story. He loves each of us and has a purpose for our lives. A story that He wants to write in and through every one of us.

The problem is that from the beginning of time, man has attempted to write his own story. A story of self-reliance and self-direction brought on by a sinful desire to do it our way. The reality is that story leads us on a dead-end journey and keeps us from finding real satisfaction. It keeps us from discovering the role and purpose God has for us in His story.

“For God so loved the world, that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.”
John 3:16

God’s purpose, the story he wants to write, is that we have eternal life and enjoy Him forever. But God is holy and just and will not tolerate our sinfulness. Our desire to write our own story apart from Him. Yet because of His great love for us, He provides forgiveness for our sins. That forgiveness comes only in a relationship with Jesus Christ.

“I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the father except through me.”
John 14:6

Through Jesus, God is calling us to Himself. He’s calling us to a relationship both for now and eternity. He wants to write His story of love, grace and forgiveness in each of our lives, and He chose Jesus as the way.

The only way that Jesus can change our story and our lives is for us to receive him and accept what he did for us.

“Yet to all who received Him, to those who believed in His name, He gave the right to become children of God.”
John 1:12

Giving Jesus control is something each person must do individually. No one else can make this decision for you. Jesus says,

“Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with him and he with me.”
Revelation 3:20

Are you open to God’s story? Are you willing to put your trust in Jesus and give Him control of your life and your story? If so, you can invite Him in by simply asking.  Ask Him to be Lord of your life. Ask Him to make His story your story.
